Stereo / Subwoofers for EXT CAB truck...

1997 Chevrolet C1500
5.0L V8 EXT CAB

Truck is completely stock as far as the sound system goes. Regular large DIN Delco tape deck and stock speakers.
I was looking to upgrade to a single DIN CD player and put in two 10"s or 12"s. Basically, I was wondering how I would go about doing this. Of course I have seen subwoofers mounted under the rear bench seat in extended cabs, but I doubt that I want to be doing all that work; so how much would it cost to pay someone the labor work to set me up with two 12"s under the extended cab bench seat?
I have a friend that put two infinity 12"s back there, but she paid $600 just in labor for that setup.
Basically, what I am trying to say is that I don't have a ton of money to pay someone in labor charges, so how much should this cost and how much have you paid to do the same thing? Would it be impossible to do it myself? Where can I but a truck box that will guarantee-fit in my truck? Does anyone have any specific recommendations about sub size (10" or 12") or sub brand? (I have run two planet audio 12"s in a big ported box in another vehicle of mine and I loved it)

Any and all feedback/comments is greatly appreciated, thanks.

as far as the box goes if ur good enough do it urself.. thats the cheapest way to go about it.. wood work isnt too hard especially just for speakers.. as far as the CD player goes its not hard to put in.. you can get a wireing kit from walmart and a dash installation kit.. the main reciever in these trucks is under the dash to the right of the steering column mounted on a bar that runs from the firewall to the from of the dash board.. you have to use the plugs from it to plug into the wireing harness you get in the installation kit..

The CD player and door speakers are the least of my concerns...I appreciate the suggestions, but like I said, my main problem is installing subwoofers in an extended cab pickup. Obviously, the only place they can go is under the bench seat in the extended cab. I am just trying to see how hard it is and what other people have done subwoofer-wise in their extended cab pickups. Or maybe is it just cheaper to pay someone to fabricate something that looks nice? If that is the case, then how much should I expect to pay on JUST the labor alone (assuming I already have two 12s)?

I went to a local audio liquidator and bought 2 12's in a box, mounted a 200 watt rms amp on the side of the box, hooked the left-right outs right into the box, put two big handles on the top and connected it all through a wiring harness from a remote starter. I just unclip it from the amp. The line from the deck runs under the carpet to the back of the cab. I left 6 feet of extra line to play with. Best of all, I have put two eye hooks into the bottom side of the box, attatched two chains with quick releases to it and these connect to the child safety tethers on the back wall of the cab from under the seat using quick release again. Something like what mountain climbers use. I would hate for that 70 pound box to roll around me in the cab in the event of an accident. The box can sit on the forward folded seat or on the floor as needed. Get a back passenger, you just quick disconnect harness from the amp, unhook the chains and carry it out by the handles to park anywhere from the truck bed to the house/garage.
Cost $279 Canadian Dollars. Ease of instant removal and safety factor, Priceless.
P.S. Want to make bolts come loose "everywhere" and gradually watch your truck fall apart, crank it up. My Chevy sure doesn't seem built that kind of sound abuse. I couldn't begin to list what has fallen off

Just installed an excellent system a couple of days ago and I am loving it....would definitely recommend it to any other people that have an ext. cab truck that want some nice sound at a very inexpensive price.

Specs:

Pioneer 6700 CD/MP3/WMA Player (Detachable face w/ remote)
Planet Audio 600 Watt Amplifier mounted on back wall behind rear bench seat
2 Memphis Audio 12" subwoofers mounted in DOWNFIRE position in a nice carpeted truck-box under back bench seat...looks real good and ride quality not compromised

I definitely love it and it hits like a champ!
