Question 1996 ford taurus engine problem

i have a 1996 ford taurus wagon gl with 95000 miles. The car worked perfectly fine until about 5 months ago and i needed a fuel pump replaced. A few days ago the engine started making a really bad nocking noise and the "service engine soon" light came on. the engine makes the sound all the time. When i hit the gas the car struggles to accelerate and the nocking gets louder. i pulled the spark plugs and the conductor was white(getting to much air not enough gas). the air intake looked fine. could it be a something wrong with the fuel system thats causing the engine to make that sound (bad fuel injectors?). thanks matt

how can i pull the diaganosis code of the computer without a scanner

First off, go to autozone, or most any parts store and they will pull the codes for free. Hard to say what it could be without the codes. Post them here when you get them. Did all the plugs look the same, or was one worse that the others?

As was said, you need the codes read.

Did this problem begin very suddenly or did it creep up on you gradually?

A genuine "KNOCKING" noise means a mechanical problem. Better be sure what you are looking at.
