Question strange vibration!?!

I have a 97 Taurus that makes a humming noise when it is driven. It has nothing to do with the engine because when it is in park and the rpms are increased, no hum. It only hums when it is in drive. The faster you drive the louder it gets until it reaches its peak pitch. I believe it is in the drivetrain but I am a virgin to front wheel drive vehicles. Oh and I forgot to mention that the gas pedal also vibrates when it is driven. Please help!

Thanx
Brian

Re: strange vibration!?!

Well it could be a couple things. First does it seem to be comming from the front or the back of the car?? I'm assuming the front. It could be bad tires which will cause a loud hum and at the same time cause the car to vibrate, or the hub and bearing assembly. This will also cause a hum and can cause vibration in the car if it is loose enough. I would check these out and see what happens.

The humming comes from the front of the car and is sometimes unbearable. I have to drive with the radio cranked just to have some peace. The vibration only effects the gas pedal. The whole car is stable just a vibration in the pedal. Thanx for the tip about the bearing assembly. I will check that out this Saturday and set another reply.

Thanx
Brain

Re: strange vibration!?!

check the motor mounts. broken mounts will cause the engine to vibrate/move enough to a point where is could be pulling on the gas pedal cable. the humming concern could be wheel bearings although usually when wheel bearings start to go bad you hear a grinding noise when truning(this loads the bearings creating the noise). they could also be so worn it doesnt matter there noisy all the time, so its definetly a possiblity.
another area you might want to be concerned about is the differential (transaxle assembly). your ring and pinion gear could be worn causing the hum.

I have a 2001 ford taurus.
My gas pedal vibrates when the torque converter is locked and the engine is about 1750RPM. I think the gas pedal vibrating is normal.
