painting/airbrushing interiors

Hey guys/gals....I did a search but didnt come up with what i wanted. I am wondering if anyone airbrushes their interiors, and what paint do you use? I am doing some VIP cars and I am wondering if some of u even paint the interior of the VIP cars.

Re: painting/airbrushing interiors

I just use spray cans for the interiors. No primer or any prep. Just glue and spray...

Re: painting/airbrushing interiors

Most of my interiors are black. I use Krylon Semi-Flat Black. I guess it is a little more dull that Semi-Gloss or it may be the same, but I think it gives a satisfactory texture that simulates a black leather interior.

Of course I tend to rush things. You may want to use the airbrush if you have custom colors in mind and you can't find the spray paint. You can prime if the interior plastic is different from your color in mind, but I don't think priming is necessary if the plastic color is similar or the same. Some people do not prime their car bodies when using Tamiya paints. Just be careful that the paint isn't too hot and crazes your plastic

The model master water based paints? Or just the regular...I find water based or water borne paints a PITA to shoot out of my eclipse!

Re: painting/airbrushing interiors

I generally airbrush everything, and avoid any brush painting. If for no other reason its smoother than a can even on interiors. If your having trouble airbrushing acrylics something is wrong, especially using a good airbrush.

Re: painting/airbrushing interiors

OK, tomorrow I will be heading to my lhs. I will pick up some Tamiya acrylics. I am going to use a Iwata HPC airbrush to do this. Do I need to primefor these paints...and how about thinning? And what pressure should i spray these at?

Re: painting/airbrushing interiors

Get you some rubbing alchohol and thin the paints about 50/50,to the consistency of milk, spray at 20 to 25 psi.Its that easy, and acrylics are very forgiving.
