need some help from someone that knows a little about small engines?
i need some help, i've got a honda oddysey go kart, and its been running kinda shitty lately, the problem is i can get about 2 laps around the track, then it starts to lose its rpms when i hit the gas, if i let off, the engine kinda idles a little, then i will try gas again and it will sound like its about to die, i've tried many things, at first i thought it was old fuel, but it wasn't it, im just not sure, your help would be great.
btw its a 250cc 2 stroke engine, only one gear so no tranny if it helps.

Sounds like somethings wrong with the carb. I don't really know, but I know my go-cart had tons of carb problems.

Since it's 2-stroke I would check the plug they tend to foul pretty fast in 2-strokes. A carb. problem would make it foul faster than usual...check to make sure the float isn't sticking.

Send 'er my way and I'll get her running awesome. Actually for school we did take apart mower engines and I got a big ol' 8 horse briggs and we completely tuned them up, and dissassembled them and such. I'd take the previous guys' advice and replace your spark plug and try tuning the carb a little bit.
We had kids bring in their go kart engines and take a pipe, braised the threaded fitting from the muffler onto the pipe and then stick those on there, we had some very loud little engines.

Check the piston for carbon build up. I think after 25 hours a 2-stroke will need its piston cleaned of carbon.
Also, you could check your oil to fuel mixture. If you have to much oil it'll foul your plug pretty good.

I posted in AF In General that Small Engine Repair should be its own small forum here in OT or somewhere else,
But my advice would be to run some B-12 through it while you've got it at a high idle, it'll sound like its gonna die, rev it up a little higher It'll burn up the carbon in the combustion chamber Make sure those spark plug are gapped right too

Re: need some help from someone that knows a little about small engines?
It sounds like a fuel starvation issue. Next time it tries to die, let it idle for 15 or twenty seconds - and then it should rev without hesitation - at least for a little while.
A clog in the fuel filter, or a clogged gas cap vent both sound like likely problems. Carbon build up takes a long time - the 2-stroke engine in my subaru requires decarbonization every 5000 miles (or more depending on how you drive) the faster and harder you drive it, the less often you need to clean it out. Carbon build up also signals it's arrival for many, many miles before it actually reaches the point where the engine will barely run.

Re: need some help from someone that knows a little about small engines?
in your first sentence 2 stroke, thats a lot like what is happening, it will almost die, then i will let it idle for a little bit, and it'll give back some power, and i'll be able to get it back to the garage without pushing it, but i im not able to run it consistently at all or it will die.
