Silencer Removal

Hey all.

On my exhaust, there is a silencer which I would like to remove. I'm going to be going to the track next week, and I want the best possible performance. There's 2 bolts in the muffler tip that go thru to the silenceer. I took those out, and tried puilling it out. No luck. I used WD-40... nothing. I got it to move a 1/2 inch by taking some pliars and pulling it out a little on each side. It's now sitting at the very tip, and it's not moving any farther. Any ideas on how to take it out. I thought they just slid right out, but that's a negative. Thanks

Re: Silencer Removal

I believe you need a special tool, look around on various sites like extremepsi.com or horsepowerfreaks.com and they have the tools for about 20$ i think

Re: Silencer Removal

you can remove them without a special tool. They are a very tight fit, just keep pulling on it and it will come out.

try using something that you can hook around the inside of it. a bent coathanger works just fine. stick it in, hook it on the inside lip, yank.

On tuners they recommended using a hooked tool, like gotboost said. That didn't work for me.

The silencer should slip out. I sprayed PB Blaster first. To get a lip to work with, I spent a few minutes banging a flat head screwdriver around the edge of the silencer. Once a quarter inch or so was exposed around the perimeter, I used two sets of pliars opposed to one another and pulled straight up. It wasn't easy to do-- quite a bit of force to pull it out. I think one of the tricks is to lubricate, and the other trick is to pull from multiple points, so that you're not wedging the silencer against the muffler. The last trick is to pull harder... once you get the right hold, it's not really about finesse. Good luck.

Re: Silencer Removal

Cool. Sounds good. I'll have to try to find a hooked object. It's sitting at the end of the muffler, but not farther. Ill try tomorrow.
