the new eclipse

i scrolled down, but didnt see any thread of this already
if its already been talked about then sorry joe and eclipserst

anyway, i just seen the new eclipse in person today.
i'm not sure exactly how well the engine is built, but tis will be the fastest eclipse yet, running mid 14's and about 260hp i believe
it looks to me sorta like a cross between the 2nd gen and 3rd gen
i like the looks, the interior when i got inside wasnt the most impressive thing in the world, but nor was it bad, just a normal nice interior. the dealership put some 18 inch crome wheels on it, looked really sweet.

how long has it been out? and has anyone else seen it in person yet?
also what are your thoughts on the new eclipse? i'm interested in knowing how you guys feel about your new car

Re: the new eclipse

I went over to the dealership for parts and took a look at the base model. The looks are alright except I still don't like the tail lights and rx7 style chrome spoiler? bar connecting them. Interior is nice, seems completely different than a 2g though. Wasn't a GT model so I don't know if that has different interior accents. They sold the GT for $28k this week... I'd get an EVO still. I'm glad my car won't be running 14's for long... I'd hate to have one of these put me in my place.

Re: the new eclipse

After I join the navy, I consider getting one. I'm gonna see if they are any different over seas first. I think they look good. That is after a lot of growing. The first pic I seen, I hated it.

I test drove the gt and I give it a :bigthimb:

It would be cooler if it was 265hp turbo'd

Re: the new eclipse

I got to check 2 of them out when I was down at RIM. Both were the GT, I really like the new Orange color that they have. The interior is very much like a 3rd gen. I do like the fact that they have a 10" sub stock for the premium sound package. Overall I think its a whole lot better than the 3rd gen but they are a little pricey for the GT.

Im not sure when or if the new Ralliart Galants are coming out but I got to check one of those out and it was bad ass....so keep your eyes out for that.

Re: the new eclipse

I still haven't seen one on the road, but from photos it resembles the 2g more so then the 3g does. I don't like the split in the door window's which creates and second triangular shaped window. Only time will tell, but a 3.8LV6 should have nice HP potential. Overall I still like the styling of the 2g the best, but I'm still curious about the image the 4g will have on the street.

I think that's being a little harsh. Mitsu tried on this one. Overall its 100% better than the 3g, which was a shit box. The 3.8 liter V6 is a powerful motor. Slap on i/e/h, and that thing will be pushin 300 hp, and the upgrade to a 6 speed is a definite plus. The interior looks pretty nice, and the sound system is something you won't need to replace. Price tag is average for a car like that. Keep an open mind, I thought the same thing when I first saw a few pictures of it, but everytime I see one, I think a little more highly of it. I have read good reviews so far. Everyone on here should atleast go and test drive one, and then decide.

I totally agree, and this also goes toward the 3g. Yes most of us (including myself) came to the conclusion that the 2g outperformes, but when I test drove the 2003 GT it was definetly a fun car to drive. You have to keep in mind mitsu is targeting different buyers w/ the 3g and 4g that prefer bigger engines. At the same time they tought of us DSM'ers and kept it alive w/ the EVO. You gotta give mitsu some respect for what they are doing currently, considering their financial situation.

Re: the new eclipse

went for a test drive today...i liked it...great pick-up...responsive...the car was there...gas tank was almost empty so i couldnt get into it too much...not to mention i got stuck behind an old mazda truck doin 15 under for 2 and a half miles....but from the time i drove it i fell in love with the way it drove...but of course that doesnt say much coming from the n/a guy here...but i personally like the car and would trade mine in for one...unfortunately they didnt have a 6 speed in stock so i drove the sportstronic...first time i drove a sportstronic....it was fun...def. a step up from an auto....but i think all of you should take the time to go by your local mitsu and drive one

Re: the new eclipse

my thoughts: a mere 5-8 thousand to reach a used Evo 8. Would have been nice with AWD. Love the exterior though.

Re: the new eclipse

the reason mitsu doesnt put AWD on the eclipse now is because it will kill sales of the evo...and mitsu is having enough problems finacially since mercedes pulled out...they cant afford to kill the sales of any of their cars...sure i'd love to see an AWD eclipse next year but i dont think its gunna happen...
