Wink Replacing '95 EB edition stereo with OEM model

I have a 95 Eddie Bauer edition Explorer with the amp in the back and want to just replace it with an OEM Sony self contained unit. The problem is that the Ford has non standard cables and I am looking for a source for a conversion cable that would allow me to plug in the Ford harness to the Sony OEM unit. Any advice?

I would also like to know what the smaller harness goes to (but I'm assuming it may go to the sub-woofer in back), and if there's any way to connect that as well into an OEM unit.

Any help appreciated!

Re: Replacing '95 EB edition stereo with OEM model

I have never found anything to connect them together. I had a friend who was replacing my speakers for me and had to take the wiring harnes from the new sterio. Cut the ford harness of and splice them together with doubled ended crimp connectors. We got them from the auto store. They are blue, you stick the wire in and use the wire cutters (the pliers style part) to crimp them together to hold. Other than that I would call and auto installer and ask them what they do.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I found a company in Ohio who has wiring harnesses for the "Ford deluxe JBL" sound system and ordered them for about $13. The harness I am told by one of their techs to tie in the JBL subwoofers and amp to any OEM stereo unit.

I suspect though that while this will give me the needed outputs to the Ford system, I'll still need a second set of inputs to solder on to the Ford outputs in order to hook the OEM stereo up.

What a pain in the rear end! I desperately want to junk the Ford radio/cassette unit though, so it's worth it so long as I can get it to work.
