fiberglass spoiler - please help

whats up,
I am pretty new to working with fiberglass (I have done some small basic things - like a kickpanel etc).
Now I want to get into body fabrication for my car.

Would anyone out there please give me some instruction and advice on making a fiberglass spoiler?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: fiberglass spoiler - please help

do you want it functional or like every other rice boy with his double stack JC whitney spoiler?

because if you want it to be function it aint gonna happen and if you dont care i refuse to help another rice boy get his wing to make his honda or w/e fly down the road, full throttle, can farting, at slightly faster than the flow of traffic.

Please truly help

that was a very inspirational response.

anyway unless your an engineer who has a background in aerodynamics and has access to a wind tunnel - can you truly say that your spoiler is 100% functional - not at all - therefore the majority of the design considerations are geared toward the look of the spoiler instead.

does anyone here TRULY help newbies like me?
I posted my question a week ago and got only one "response".
I want to get started in fiberglass work on my own projects - please someone out there point me in the right directoin

Maybe if we got some questions about stuff worth fabricating. Taking on the freestanding construction of a spoiler isnt for someone who has just built some kickpanels.
If you have a lot of expernce a few days is all you need...if you have only laid some glass and streched some fleece...it will become frustrating and you will trash $100+ of fiberglass.
There are spoilers that have the ability to create downforce, to make it 100% 100% efficent you would need a wind tunnel. if you just want it to create downforce and dotn care about drag all too much it can be done with some exparementing and research, trial and error, if you jsut want it to look cool... i refuse to help a rice boy make another home made POS spoiler.
if your doing it for looks...check the spoiler below to acheive Maximum spoiler rice boy status

Spoiler Help

Thesilentchamber.
I am just trying to simple factory-style looking spoiler for a 03 cavalier not a huge corny looking wing.
I just need some detailed instructions on how you would design/create a custom fiberglass spoiler.

Don't worry as I learn more about glassing I will try to post more thought provoking scenarios.

Thanks

Re: fiberglass spoiler - please help

I would make it out of foam then cover it in fiberglass. Its going to be tricky, going to have to take alot of measurments and use a contour gauge to make sure its symetrical on both sides though.

Re: fiberglass spoiler - please help

should have called it a lip...

in that case, just like TSC said, contour guages arent needed. you can go by eye but it makes stuff easier if you have a contour guage because you dont have to spend time looking from 1000 different angles.

do a few layres of mad then a few of cloth and then bondo and paint

I know you want fiberglass, but why not just make it out of foam wrapped in sheet aluminum? Main reason I say this is its easier IMO.

Re: fiberglass spoiler - please help

Instead of going through all the trouble of making one, why not just go to a salvage yard and find something you like. It'll be a hundred times easier and cheaper as well. Glassing isn't something to play around with if you don't know what you're doing. way too expensive IMO. -Peace

Re: fiberglass spoiler - please help

for a spoiler, get a big block of styrofoam and make a mold and pour just mixed resin and hardener into the mold and seal it, this works better than layering fiberglass
