Check Engine Light
I have a 1992 lexus ES300 and the check engine light keeps coming on. When it comes on the car sometimes shuts off also when I'm driving and the check engine light comes on the car loses some power. Theres also a burning rubber smell.

I am experiencing the same problem There is a rubber burning smell and smoke poors out of the radio area.. I do not lose power and the car does not shut off. The check engine light remains on.. Any 1 have any solutions that do not involve the dealership mechanics ???

... How would we know what to say. Find out what the CEL is for.
In a diagnostic port bridge E1 & TE1 to get the CEL to flash the trouble code. Look up, or psot the trouble code & we can help you.

What on earth is too techy about it, a first grader could understand it.
Open the DIAGNOSTIC port. Shove something that conducts electricity into the pins marked E1 & TE1. The chart is on the bottom of the cap. ![]() Turn the k ey ON, or start the engine & the Check Engine Light will then flash the error code.
