Auto Trans feels like manual.....

My 1996 T&C tranny is operating a little strange. I live on a long driveway/dirt road with 3 other neighbors. When I simply want to "glide" at very slow speeds the transmission feels like I have it in 1st gear and am using the gear to slow me down... just like you would with a manual transmission. Could the problem be a selenoid .... as I have read s couple of other threads in which the selenoid has come up.
