Cool Dont buy trucks to race.

Hey I'm new to this Automotive Forum.com. Just thought I would start off with a cocky one who ate his words. My friend that I work with just recently bought a 2001 Ford F150 with the 5.4L V8. He has some mods like flowmasters, ECU Chip and I believe a K&N Air Intake. I have a 2003 Eclipse GT with an AEM cold air intake, and some NGK Iridium plugs along with some triple core arospeed spark wires. I also shortened my shifter by a little. This is one of the cockiest guys I ever met. He talks about that truck like it will smoke ferraris. The truck is an auto, so i knew i had the advantage there, but i still didn't know if i would be able to pull on a V8. Me him and a bunch of people went out to dinner one night all in separate cars, including a slightly modded Del Sol that couldn't keep up with any of us. Ok so anyway he's in his truck in front of me maybe 4 car lengths ahead. It was a quiet 3 lane road. we are doing maybe 40-45 he waves me to pull up along side him. So, i slowly started easin my way up to him in the other lane. I got about 2 car lengths behind him when he got on it. it took me a second to realize he was going by the time i threw it down in third he was already pullin on me. Well it was cold out so my car pulls pretty hard in the cold. At 85 mph i had about 4 car lengths on him. I passed him just in time to merge over for the up coming intersection. I gave him a good look as i flew by him, his eyes were as big as headlights. It made me feel good, although im not bragging cause i beat a truck im bragging cause i put a cocky person in his place. By the way he still says my car is a piece of s*** lol.

Don't buy trucks to race? Tell that to slow process, that dude with the blown dakota, and all those lightning owners. Talk about a car not to buy to race..look no further than a slow ass 03 eclipse.

Re: Re: Dont buy trucks to race.

Good kill, but watch out. Sometimes those trucks can be made to be real fast. However, I've yet to run into any of them, save for an SRT-10 and a Lightning that ended up owning itself.

Re: Dont buy trucks to race.

The Dodge Daytona is nothing but a Single Cab Ram with a Hemi and a 9" wing.

Nothing else, no extra power. Infact, it's slower than a base model Single cab Ram with Hemi cause it's got 20" wheels.

Base ram has smaller wheels, less weight... and faster acceleration. Although the Daytona might have a 3.9 rear gear. But yeah... still slow.

Hemi Ram's aren't that fast stock... go race one. You'll see.

Re: Dont buy trucks to race.

But...but...its got a HEMI. HEMIs are only beat by LS1's, everyone knows that.

I thought they were called Rumble Bees?? Either way, I think the Hemi Rams are overrated, literally, like I don't believe they make 345 hp. And here's my reasoning. MT did a test on a SS Silverado and a RWD, single cab Hemi Ram. They got 15.1 out of the Hemi Ram and 14.9 out of the SS. Now common sense will tell ya that if two vehicles both have 345 hp, one is RWD,weighs atlesat 500 lbs less then the other, and has a 5-spd auto, and the other AWD and only a 4-spd auto, then the RWD vehicle with on extra cog SHOULD win a race in a 1/4 mile.

Now I know its magazine times, but its a magazine time for both vehicles. That makes me think its one of two things: the Hemi is overrated horsepower wise, or GM underrates the LQ9 6.0.

Re: Dont buy trucks to race.

yea... i won't let my dad read what you wrote... his f150 is running with 425hp. He'd kill your eclipse anyday.

Hell, my AUTO J30 would beat your eclipse... It would be close, but i'd still win.

but that's not the point. I don't believe you on your outcome because simply put, you have done nothing to your car besides some walmart mods and he's got Ecu, flowmasters and intake?

if he's got flowmasters, he should have headers too...

let's do the math...

stock for stock

you

Ground Clearance: 5.9 in. Curb Weight: 3142 lbs.
Gross Weight: 4013 lbs.

Performance
Base Number of Cylinders: 6 Base Engine Size: 3 liters
Base Engine Type: V6 Horsepower: 200 hp
Max Horsepower: 5500 rpm Torque: 205 ft-lbs.
Max Torque: 4000 rpm Drive Type: FWD

him

Curb Weight: 4670 lbs.
Performance Data

Performance
Acceleration (0-60 mph): 5.6 sec. Braking Distance (60-0 mph): 129 ft.
Base Number of Cylinders: 8 Base Engine Size: 5.4 liters
Base Engine Type: V8 Horsepower: 380 hp
Max Horsepower: 4750 rpm Torque: 450 ft-lbs.
Max Torque: 3250 rpm Maximum Towing Capacity: 5000 lbs.
Drive Type: RWD Turning Circle: 44.3 ft.

sorry, but with his ecu and flowmasters... there's no way in hell you'd beat him. I call BS.

Re: Dont buy trucks to race.

uhh...well....I believe it...03 Eclipse runs what mid/low 15 + intake, 5.4L F150 gotta be in the 16's. An F150 isn't a race car, it's a truck meant for torque...obviously you can make it fast as hell, but this one just has an exhaust.

I just looked it up...there's like 4 different 5.4L V8's for an 01 F150

195 hp (XL)
225 hp (natural gas)
260 hp (Lariat)
380 hp (SVT Lightning)

Since it's not a lighting SVT or Lariat its the 195 hp one...so no need to call BS.

Re: Dont buy trucks to race.

nah.... he didn't say it wasn't svt...

and the chipped ecu gives (don't quote me) like 80-100 hp.... no way in hell he could beat that truck.

I watched a vid of a Chevy on a dyno I think it was named parishdyno.wmv and he pulled somewhere around 550 hp and it was awd. Pretty damned skippy if you ask me. We had some fun with a friend of mine he had a Ford F350 out on the street one night. Damn thing could haul balls.
