everyone should clean their maf sensor

finally fixed my problem with prior listings, i had my mechanic clean my maf sensor, as soon as he did i had restored power and now she is very responsive of the start. everyone who has a crown vic should clean their maf sensor it takes 3 minutes but its very much worth while. when he got it off he said it doesnt even look dirty but after cleaning it with some car cleaner it made a big difference. now i will see if my car still has the problem with her idle after letting her sit overnight. i will come back tomorrow and let everyone know!!

yes cleaning the maf solved my problem with morning starts and rough idle, trust me if you havent cleaned your maf sensor in a while do it. you wont be sorry. ohh ya thanks to bigger john for all his help on this matter, thanks guys

I would clean it but I don't know where it is located. Please advise.

I do know that cleaning a dirty and/or not so dirty Idle Speed Control Valve on the side of my F-150 302 throttle body is required frequently and makes a World of difference in idle speed stability and recovery to idle from throttle without stalling.

Is there a similiar valve on this 4.6L in addition to the MAF sensor?
I presume that since we are talking about Mass Air Flow, it must be in the intake of the throttle body or close. Tell me what it looks like.

the maf sensor on my 93 sits right on top of my air intake hose, its a black square thing about 3 inches my 2 inches, it will unplug then clean it and replug it. there is and arrow on top of it showinf which way the air flows. hope this helps

to clean it you have to use a special electical conduit cleaner, i got mine from radio shack.

just be sure you do not actually touch the wire.

be sure to unhook your negative battery terminal before you start.

let the maf dry thoroughly before reinstalling.

not true bigger john, all u have to do it clean it with carb cleaner. this stuff will evaporate it 30 seconds then replace. you dont need any special cleaner trust me my car is living proof pal. after 2 days of increased performance i still cant believe the difference, its like a different car man. so please do yourself a favor and every time your car is running not up to specs 1st clean your maf sensor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't use carb cleaner for this job. Some types of carb cleaner can leave a residue on the wire in your MAF and cause damage. Throttle body cleaner will do the same job, but without the residue. Just to be safe, I would use the Electrical conduit cleaner. (That's probably what I will use from now on)

actually now that i think about it, you and bigger john are probably right. now you have me worried that there is residue on my sensor lol. well next time i will use the special stuff. but the carb cleaner definately did the job. what about wd40 could i use this in the place of carb cleaner?

bigger john why do you say to disconnect the negative terminal? i didnt do it to mine. what can happen?

wd40 would be very bad on the maf.

if you didn't unplug the negative battery terminal, i wouldn't worry about it.

personally i feel that whenever i am working on my car, and it deals with something related to an input/output sensor for the pcm, i always reset the pcm. you reset by unhooking the neg. battery terminal for about a half hour.

Nice to know, I work at a computer shop and they sell cans of contact cleaner that you spray onto cards and chips. It evaporates quickly and removes almost anything if you use a qtip or something else that doesn't leave any lint or residue.
