Exclamation 1993 explorer dome light problem

Hi, to any one who can help me with this problem i would praise you. I have a 1993 ford explorer eddie bower edition. 6.0 4x4 4door. The problem I'm having is my dome light won't shut off. I have taken it to 2 mechanics(sp) and first thing they try to blame is the alarm i put on. The alarm i have installed, i installed it myself is a mannix and it was working fine for the past 4 months with no problems what so ever. My wife was using the car last to go to and from work and came home one night said she got in the car and the dome light wouldn't shut off. I have talk to lots of people and only a car eletricain thinks they could fix it and they charge 65 bucks an hour just to trouble shoot it. I have disconnected the alarm completely including the wire that connnects to the door pin and didn't fix the problem. I sprayed down the door pins with WD40 and that didnt work either. I also disconnected teh door pin to see if that would make the light go out and it didn't. I heard that there is a module that controls the dome light but when i asked the mechanic he said there isn't one on that year. so im fresh out of idea's on how to get this fixed. Any suggestions would be great at this point. Also excuse my bad spelling and grammer.

Re: 1993 explorer dome light problem

This may sound strange and may not help but not to long ago I had come out and my dome light was on in my 97. When i tried to start it it took 2 tries. the battery had completely died and when it was able to charge enough it turned the light on and it didn't shut off until my battery was charged up.
I would check fuses for the door, alarm and the lights, make sure that the trigger on all the doors are not stuck, and then trace the wiring to make sure everything good.

An Eddie Bauer should have illuminated entry.
Does your Eddie Bauer have a keypad mounted externally
on the drivers door? It should.
If so, check the door latch mounted light switch/switches.
This is a switch that the illuminated /remote enrty module
gets its signal from. Now keep in mind, suspect a door that is
not used often.
Just my opinion.

'illuminated entry" Meaning when i open my door the dome light cuts on corret? Cause it does. As for "keypad" meaning power option aka the power windows, power doors buttons? So a door that not used allot could have a bad door pin? im going to unplug them one by one see if i get any closer to solving this. I sprayed all the door pins wiht WD40 and slamed and opened them already but im going to do a bit of troubleshooting thru the pins as i was told unpluging them disables them and that is how you can find if there bad.

Just a thought here. Don't take this wrong, but are you sure the interior light switch on light switch is turned off? I am certain it is off, since you said you had a mechanic look at it. I believe you have the switches that are visible. You can unbolt them from the door frames and see if one is shorted out or if a wire is grounded. These swiches have current to them all the time and ground when the switch is extended which causes lights to come on.

Heh at this point i wont take any thing the wrong way all input is good if by some chance it can get it fixed. I unbolted teh door pins and unpluged them and check them to see there is a bad ground or bad pin any where. I dont have professional equipment as my volt tester got stolen awhile back. I unpluged all 4 door pins and the light remained on. So im scared i might have to pay a huge amount of money for a pro to trouble shoot it. But any more input any one could shoot me would be nice. When i get moved into our new house im going to have a friend with his equipment come over help trouble shoot it for a bad ground.

Door latch switches are mounted on the door latch itself.
Not visable without removing the interior door trim panel.
The pin switch that you speak of is body mounted.
The exterior keypad is a numbered keypad mounted on the
outside of the drivers door only. Only Eddie Bauer models
have the external keypad.
Hope this helps.

There is no keypad, i think they didnt started added that tell 95 or 94. The will go taking the door panel off and searching for the door latch switch.

Also, don't overlook the switch/switches mounted on the lifgate center
latch/lock.
