Performance parts??

What would be some of the best mods i could get for my 01 ss. It's stock right now and i wanted to add some more power just some bolt on stuff like intake, exhaust, pulleys, headers, performance chips. What are some of the best brands for those types of mods. Thanks

Re: Performance parts??

No chip. If you want something to help with computer, have it dyno tuned.

SLP/Whisper lid will net a couple horses.
Pacesetter headers are the best cheaper header for the LS1.
Catback----I recommend Magnaflow. Flows as good as any, and sounds pretty damn good.
Intake manifold, you have the performance LS6 intake already on your car stock, so just the lid will be fine.

Those mods would get you to around 330-340 RWHP.

Re: Performance parts??

those gears are unrealistic. go with 3.73's max. best bang for the buck would probly be a set of ported LS6 heads. LSX intake manifold. Big bore thottle body. and the headers and exhaust you spoke of, would provide serious perfomance increases.

4.10's in the six speed cars are perfect. Very little sacrifice to mileage and RPM's in 6th gear.
When you start looking at 500 horse though, 3.73's are better, which is why I am going to with 3.73's over 4.10's.
The 4.10's are GREAT for the M6 4th gens.

LS6 ported heads a VERY expensive. $1300 for the heads alone, plus getting them worked. I would recommend having someone hog out some 5.3/6.0 heads over that.

Re: Performance parts??

The higher the number gear, the faster you will go through the gears. Shorter gears help with launch as well, as they get you into your powerband faster. They also help with low end torque, not that the car doesn't already have a bunch.

You are new to modding the car. As your car sits, it makes 305-310 RWHP. Lid, headers, catback and you might be close to 340, maybe even over that. Dyno tune, and see the full potential of those mods.

Re: Performance parts??

You already have a Hurst shifter, which is a decent shifter.

'Luo's Short Stick' would be a good mod for you though. It reduces throws by a fairly decent amount.

Re: Performance parts??

the downside of lower (numerically higher) gearing is that it raises your highway cruising rpms. which lowers gas mileage. less of an issue with a double overdrve tranny like a T56 but still an issue. I still think of the 4.10's as drag gears, guess im old fasioned. id have to crunch the numbers to determine if the rpms were signifigantly effected.

Re: Performance parts??

Whenever the number doesn't start with 3 I think they are "special", such as drag or extreme drag, i.e. 1/8 mile cars. 4.10's though don't seem really that far outta line, the 2005 Dodge Ram SRT-10 comes with them I think.
