1994 Explorer Voltage Needle Far Left

My wife notified me the A/C was not working...I don't drive this vehicle very often and after starting up I noticed the voltage indicator needle was past the "8" to the left (10 O'Clock position)...asked the wife when this started and she couldn't say...I think the only gauge she looks at is the GAS gauge to tell me when I NEED to take the car...funny it always is on "E" when I get it!!.Yes, the A/C was also not engaging. Took it to the local AutoParts store and they said bad Alternator...purchased new and installed (VERY easy install!!) Same problems...took back to have them recheck the alternator (just in case) and it checked good. Charged the A/C and replaced Low pressure cutout switch (the old one was leaking)

Well, A/C fine...Alternator fine...Voltage Indicator still far left???

Any Ideas??.....Charlie

Have you check your fuses, check a haynes or chiltons manual to find the fuses inside and under the hood.

I have checked all fuses (inside and under the hood) all look good.
Looking at the wiring schematic, it shows through ignition to the charging indicator and then to the alternator. I hate to take the instrument panel apart, but it looks like I'll have to to check voltage across the gauge. Just thought someone has had a similar problem and found an easier fix.
