Questions about a 2002 windstar

We are looking at buying a used 2002 windstar lx 3-door with 89000 miles. I am wondering what people think about that and what specific things I should look for before buying. It will come with a 30 day warranty, and I can purchase up tp a 3 yr/36000mi warranty where all I have to pay is $100 for anything engine/powertrain related.

I am also wondering if anyone has any insight into how difficult it would be to fix the Vent selector dial? The dial where you select panel or floor or defrost, etc... doesn't always change to the proper choice. The dealer says it's a vacuum tube issue, but that he can't afford to fix it since he is already loosing money (blah blah...). Anyone know about that and how hard it is to fix?

Also, how does one go about getting the TSB's for a specific model? I saw on Motorcrafts website where you can purchase a subscription, but that seems to be a very bad buisness decision on Ford's part to make it's customers buy the advisories that will help fix Ford vehicles.

Thanks in advance.

Z.
