What are the chances of a rock busting out the headlight?

So, I've been driving my mom's 92 Jeep Cherokee for over a year now. I'm 17, so it's ok for me to drive it that long. Anyway, I don't usually have to do anything to it out of the usual other than add oil (it leaks), but sometime today (I think) the headlight got busted.

I'm assuming that a rock busted it on the highway, because I don't really have anything against anybody right now, and I'm assuming that nobody has anything against me. So, what are the chances of a rock busting out the headlight on our Jeeps with regular highway driving in southern WV?

Very likely, just the same as a windshield catching a stone and getting cracked. Just a word of caution, when your behind large trucks, especially those with very little,to no mud flaps, keep plenty of space between you and the truck, that will lessen the chance of breaking another headlight or even a windshield.

I got a busted one the first week I bought my 97 Cherokee....Good thing it only cost $16 for a good Halogen replacement. Or may $32, since you should upgrade them to the hi-powered ones.

OH yeah...I am on my third windshield....and another headlite too.
On California freeways...watch out for gravel haulers. Tip....a bug shield seems to help...or may it is just the superstition...

Re: What are the chances of a rock busting out the headlight?

Some day, I'm going to market a bolt on mod called the "Tailgater 2000".

Since most folks don't know the meaning of '1 car length per 10mph', the TG2000 would be an educational tool to help them understand. When a vehicle approaches from behind and disappears in your mirrors due to it's close proximity, a simple push button on the dash would emit a fine spray of the TG2000 fluid (most likely a mixture of WD40 and anti-freeze) from a nozzle discretely located on the rear of your vehicle. As the car doing the tailgating veers off the road into the brush, the driver might say to himself, "Gee, I wish I hadn't followed so closely...", thereby being educated.

Until I work out the liability issues, broken headlights and windshields will have to suffice...

I do realize that broken glass comes from oncoming traffice too, but on winding N. Idaho roads, few things p--- me off more than a tailgater, especially at night. May they all get fined a new headlight!

Jeeper,

TG2000 - I've Already Got One
Seems that the little rubber hose at the base of the rear wiper of my '92 Jeep has come loose and when I push the "Wash" button for the back window - guess whose window gets washed?

Gotta get that fixed tho!

Take Care,

Re: What are the chances of a rock busting out the headlight?

I have no intention of going to any part of California, CA is moving to Idaho quite fast enough (along with it's crowded traffic and screwed up ideas) - thank you

My whole point is simply this, BACK OFF! First, in this day of driving to work while we talk on the cell, drink our starbucks, and read the paper, folks need to slow down and leave some room. Maybe the hiways in CA wouldn't be so crowded if everyone would be courteous and leave a little space for flow.

Second, XJ's aren't exactly given five stars for their braking ability. It only makes sense to leave a little room in front just in case. It does nobody any good, and it certainly doesn't make the slow car in front drive any faster by crowding his back bumper.

Not 2 months ago, I was driving home at night on a fairly crowded 2 lane hiway North of Coeur d'Alene with a guy right on my ass. I was traveling 50-55 with traffic, but left a good gap between me and the guy in front. Because of the gap, I was able to see the elk running out into the road and swerved. The clown behind me didn't see why I moved over until it was laying on his hood.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, just asking all to consider the possibility an XJ is no more prone to a headlight breaking out than any other vehicle. It is just part of life on the road, but smart driving helps too...

Re: What are the chances of a rock busting out the headlight?

I wasnt as fortunate. I lost a 3 day old hella H4 and IPF magic J bulb via flying rocks from a semi coming the opposite direction on a two lane.

Sow how is this "stupid idea" laden Californian supposed to "back off" in that situation?

Anyways, Ive got my own Tailgater 2000. Fill your drive thru soda cup with some Ice and some ketchup. Then take one of your down pillows with you on a road trip. When the proverbial tailgater creeps up on you, stuff some feathers in the cup with the Ice and Ketchup, put the lid back on, and huck it out the window back at his windshield.

Its hilarious to watch them mash the brakes thinking theyve nailed a bird.

Re: What are the chances of a rock busting out the headlight?

ARCTIC!! THAT'S AWESOME!! LMAO

I'll have to give that one a try! I agree man, the oncoming ones, you can't avoid. We have logging trucks here who take their half of the road out of the middle, and they send a hand full of gravel at your windshield to boot.
