california legalities turbo swap?
ok hypathetically when i find the mr2 i want and buy it i want to swap in a jdm 3rd jen motor and i was just wondering if it would pass emmisions and smog and would i be able to register it in california if anyone knows i would be very gratefull. also if it is legal if it is only legal in udm turboed mr2s or also if i swapped it into a na. thanks!

The 2nd gen JDM motors register just fine in California. If the only difference in those motors is the turbo, which is still "stock", then I wouldn't think it would be any different. I don't think the emissions is any different between the two.

no. it wouldn't, japanese engines don't have EGR.

no it wouldnt pass emissions and i wouldnt be able to register it? they dont have EGR? i dont know what that is and y would i need it mabey im just stupid

they do not come with emissions equiptment. you would not be able to pass emissions, no idea about registering it... i thought the two went hand in hand for cars post 1973.

sure, drill and tap the intake, put egr on it, retune the ecu to accept what the egr tells it... wire all of it up to an output that the DMV can read.

not everywhere requires emissions... and you must have the car adequate to the area's requirements.

yea i know its based on were your ats requirments but i live in california and mobit lives in cali yet eveyrones telling me i cant do the jdm swap cause of regulations in california yet mobit has a jdm engine in his car and lives in california so i wanna know if its registered in california or a different state or is it legal in california and everyone was wrong
