Ashtray compartment does not open

My asktry compartment (under the radio) stopped opening. So it is stuck in the closed position. I is probably the switch the opens it that is the problem. Has anyone has this problem, and found an easy way to fix it. I don't really want to take the console apart to try and fix it.

but if you need it for the lighter for a radar detector.... i'd crack open the console and take a look....

I don't smoke. I need the lighter for my cell phone. Is there an easy way to take the console apart. I want to make sure it looks as nice as it does now, when I'm done.

be gentle and use a flathead screwdriver... it should just pop out

Do you mean use a screwdriver on the ashtray door and it should just pop open. I've tried that with some very light pressure but maybe I should try it again.

no no no

i mean you may have to take off the front panel... the wooden part that houses both the ashtray and the cd player. when i removied mine, it just popped out with a flathead.. u'll more than likely have to remove that whole panel and bring it inside to ensure nothing's causing it to stick. that panel itself comes out pretty easy so hopefully you won't have a problem with it
