6.5L Diesel exhaust smoke???????

My 2000 Silverado is smoking fuel when hauling,specialy going up hill. Don't think this is normal. Thought that by changing the fuel filter that this would fix the problem. The air filter is also new, the fuel pump also has been changed 14,000 miles ago. What else could be the cause of this black cloud of smoke during hauling. This is my first diesel and don't know if this is normal or not. What do you think?

as far as I know, diesels have a tendency to smoke, but I've never owned one.

Thats just what diesels do, I believe its just unburned fuel. As long as it stays black you got nothing to worry about. Most of todays diesels smoke far less than they used to... but they still do, its the nature of the beast.

This is true. I have an '04 Cummins and it will smoke when given heavy throttle or under a heavy load. Things to remember:

White smoke: Not enough fuel or temp is cold.
Black smoke: too much fuel.

If it is smoking black all the time, this would indicate too much fuel, but if it is only during towing/heavy throttle, then you're fine.

I would say that it's excessive smoking cause my friend as the samething and when hauling is smokes less. Mine is like a black cloud. Is there anything I can do to stop this cloud.

The boost pressure wasn't there so I changed my waste gate solenoid and everything is fine now.
