supercharger question.
ok me and my friend were talking about this jrsc for my 00 civic ex at school. he knows his fair share about cars so we had a heated argument.(he has a 69 stang)he kept telling me that if i were to put a supercharger on my civic then i would have to either upgrade or change my whole engine because it wouldn't be able to handle the power.is this true or not.i don't think i have to.anybody with a detailed explaination of superchargers and upgrades.:smoker:

With a JRSC your motor will be fine. Jackson Racing makes low psi boost superchargers specifically built for your motor. They aren't gonna give you insane power like a blower on a 289 or 302, they'll just boost you a little bit. You might want a high volume fuel rail if you really feel ambitious. And that is only like $100.

this supercharger must suck. he only gets 137 hp. doesnt a ex civic come stock with a 127 hp engine?i was also reading other parts that said that other engine mods can affect a smog test result. what kind of mods would those be besides a turbo like he said.

Ok, I thought you just said both of you had your fair share of car knowledge? Superchargers are run thru pullies. You get different diameter pullies for different boost levels. The one's that JRSC sells brings one that'll offer enough boost to keep the stress on the engine within tolerable limits. And even if it didn't, this is not a domestic engine, you don't have to "change the whole engine". A simple bottom end strengthening with some fuel and spark upgrades would be all you need to make a nice chunk of power.
And no the super doesn't "suck". The stock 6th gen makes 127hp BHP, this dyno test registered 137 hp to the wheels. That would be around a 40hp bump. Considering that getting power out of a supercharger is harder than a turbo and that is a stock 1.6 SOHC engine, that's what's to be expected. And anything that changes your smog would be the same stuff that makes more power. Getting cams, exhaust, cat, fuel upgrades, it all changes your emmissions usually for the worse.
