new user, many questons, need help.

Hello all, this is extemely long, sorry.

What i have - 98 GMC sierra Z-71 3 door stepside 350 5.7 liter sequential fuel injecton.

What i have done - Superchips programmer, K&N fipk cold air intake, NGK platinum plugs, 8.5 MSD super conductor wires, had an A.I.R. raid throttle body spacer, fully synthetic oil.

Problems i've had - Went off of bad advise and used champion truck plugs which turned out to be crap and produced a rough idle. TB spacer completely removed all low end power(great on highway though) and wouldn't fit underhood with the K&N. Got greedy with the programmer and maxed out my shift pressure, blew the tranny(thank god for a $200 deductable extended warranty and a mechanic who dealt with the warranty company). Steering "let go" on gradual turns(this site informed me of the Steering Position Sensor issue<technical service bulletin # 86-32-06 sep 98>). Constantly in a dilemma wether to build for speed or off roading. Biggest problem, i'm addicted to going fast/hard and this isn't the vehicle for racing, but i'm an idiot and will continue to go fast.

Questons-
1 - Is there a performance intake manifold for my application? after looking at the design of SFI and much research my guess is no.

2 - Is there a conversion kit to put a vette or camaro intake on my application(my guess would be electonics are different)? Would i have to change heads?

3 - What headers should i use? True duels(with crossover) or not? Exhaust size?

4 - After tranny rebuild(mechanic put stronger than OEM parts in it) it made a whirring noise similar to the sound of a fan being on or like a flex fan sound, my moms 89 olds did this, what is the noise, why does it do that, is it bad?

5 - I can't find a performance cam for my application, where would i find one?

6 - What other mods can i do for performance.

7 - How would i stop body roll/improve cornering? Full vehicle polyurethane?

8 - With all mods current and future should I be concerned with improving inner engine components ie. pistons/rods?

9 - Where would i find a cowl hood for my application?

10 - Is there a snorkel for my application(if i go for off roading)? I would build one myself but i'm not comfortable with cutting body pannels without some sort of guide.

11 - MSD ignition system(coil/ignition/distributer)? Would it really make a difference? I've heard yes and no.

12 - What can i do to improve off the line acceleration?

13 - Finding black residue post throttle body buttterfly. Cause/solution? Remove valve cover to intake tube vent and replace with valve cover filter?

14 - I've been told that the brakes/pedal play/brake feel on all of these models (GMC and Chevy), not just mine, suck. I've heard two things, big brake kit for the front, and the problem is really in the master cylinder. Which is true? If the second is true, is there an after market master cylinder that fixes the problem?

I think that covers it all, again sorry for the length of this post and any suggestions/help on any of these many questions would be much appreciated. Thanx.

Re: new user, many questons, need help.

This is for questions 7, 9, 11, 12. For 7, some aftermarket anti-sway bars would help. For 9, places that carry atfermarket parts like JCWhitney, StylinConcepts, etc. 11, MSD lets you fine tune ignition spark on certain RPMS. So yes and no, it depends how you tune it. And for 12, put a tighter ratio ring and pinion in your diff. Remember, doing this will cause higher RPMS at highway speeds, etc. Hope this helps. Some other guys on here can help with other stuff.

truckperformance.com and ckresto.com are also very, very good sites. Otherwise I'm just gonna say with the right amount of money your possibilities are endless.
