Unhappy Locking problem on my 750iL '88

Hi, i need some help on me old 750iL.
The battery has been dead, dead flat 'cos i was wanting for the alternator to be done. (arse of a job). But there was a problem before that anyway.
Basicly the 2 front door locks DO NOT work with the central locking.
The back ones and the boot are fine.
The drivers door can be pushed right down with one click and pulled up with one click.
The passanger door can only be pushed down a tiny, tiny bit, but it does lock it.

SO... anyone know whats going on????

Also im in the UK, so the drivers side is on the right.

Thanks for any help

locks

close the door with the window open, put key in lock, turn key to lock the door, while turning the key, press down on the button, it should go down with a crunch, its a feel type of thing. may take a few tries. then do the same on the other side!
