another coutour running hot

I have a 98 2.0L. The temperature gague reads all the way to the right all the time. The radiator fan does not run. The relay tests ok. If I short circuit the relay connectors with pliers, the fan will run. I replaced the relay and the temperature sensor. Still the gague shows hot and the fan doesn't run. If I disconnect the temperature sensor wires, the fan will run and I can dirve the car. But, this is not good. Any suggestions?

The fan should run with the AC-Max on. If it does, I'd suspect the temp guage. If it doesn't I'd suspect fan wiring.

Either way you may want to flush the dirt off of the radiator fins. You do this by using a garden hose up against the outside of the radiator to force dirt buildup out.

Thank you.

Yes it was the temperature gague. Not easy to reach. But, after replacing, everything is fine.
