Question Which Intake DO i Choose?????? HELP!!!!!

Hey guys hows it going. I just recently decided to change some parts of my car into performance parts. not to race but for the little kick i need to pass someone on the fwy. (ok maybe to race too)

what intake do i go with? I have heard that Injen has the best performance when it comes to Cold Air intakes, but is there another brand? or does it matter? help me out with some suggestions,

By the way i have an 01 CIVIC EX, (unfortunatly, automatic)

Thanks in advance for any responses

Re: Which Intake DO i Choose?????? HELP!!!!!

Injen makes some quality intakes, so does AEM, its really up to you. A lot of people on here will tell you to just buy a $10 e-bay ram air intake but I think that a cold air intake is worth the extra cash. Let us know what you choose and if you have any more questions.

Re: Which Intake DO i Choose?????? HELP!!!!!

I was thinking of going with the injen CAI but now i have heard that they get really hot. Excuse my ignorance but doesnt that cancel out the whole cold air deal. Now I have heard great things about the K&N FIPK. What do you think about those. They're made of plastic so they wont get as hot and they're pretty easy to install right? Again excuse my ignorance but im just trying to find outhow to spend the my money well and what will work for me

Thanks for your reply...more will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Which Intake DO i Choose?????? HELP!!!!!

They are all pretty easy to install, if you can remove a few clips on your fender well and operate a screwdriver you can probably figure out how to get a CAI on there. The K&N piece looks to be a standard intake although to me it looks to be a little short based on the picture I found of it, could just be me. I know AEM intakes have a heat resistant coating on them so they wont get too hot which yes will ruin the effects of a CAI. Although the air, once it hits the throttle body will heat up pretty quickly. One cheap/free mod that I think is one of the best things you can do for your car is to bypass the throttle body heater. As long as you dont live in the tundra you will be alright without it. It will reduce the intake temps considerably as the engine heats up to its normal temp.

Directions: There is a tube running from your radiator to the throttle body and one tube running from the throttle body back to the radiator. The idea behind it is to unplug the hoses from the throttle body and loop them together with a piece of tubing (it is 3/8" I believe on my si so it might be the right size on yours too). Thats it, it wont add any HP to your car but will prevent HP loss as the engine heats up, which is great for those summer days at the track/course.

Not to be a downer or anything but intake really dosent do anything but make your car louder in the higher rpm range. I bought a v2 cold air intake for an o4 civic and on aems web site a stock lx gains 10 hp to the wheels(they have dynos to prove it). But on my moms civic there really is not power differece until you get a heder and full cat back.
