How diffucult to change this harness

Hi all,
I have some problem with my fuel pump connector. I quoted local dealerships, (30) in the chart costs $103; while (29) costs $45 with both (30) and (31) together. Needless to say, I ordered whole harness.

I am not sure how diffucult to replace this whole harness? If it costs too much labour, I may cut off (30) only and solder it to the remaining section.

I think I cannot do it unless I raise my vehicle, and I don't know where (31) connects to.

Here is the brief story, I am not sure if there could be any short somewhere to cause the problem.

About 1 year ago, my car died on road intermittently. I had fuel pump changed. Not a bad fuel pump resistor. After then I still had this problem, and my mechanic replaced that connector for me (cut the old one and soldered a spare one from his shop).
Everything turned to be perfect until about more than 1 month ago, I had the same sympton again. Had car checked at again, one of the wire of the connector almost broke, which caused bad connection. Cut that broken part and soldered remaining part back to the harness. Meanwhile my mechanic found that one of the pin of the connector was burned, but they did not have another spare connector (wires of the ones to fit fuel pump were too thin, we were afraid of overheat).
These days I have the problem again. Everytime my car died, I just needed to tighten the connector or touch it somehow, then it would be fine for couple of days. But I never know when it dies next time.
I leave the passthrough and accessory cover opened all the time for over a month, in case of emergency.
I won't get my part until a week later, I will see how long the whole harness is. I just do not wish the other end reaches my hood.
May god bless me in the coming week. NoImage = NoSigImagedocument.write(pgdCode("

Re: How diffucult to change this harness

You will need to jack the car up as you will probably drop the tank to get the entire harness down. Make sure you drain as much fuel from the tank as possible as it will be heavy. You can try to remove it by removing the access plate in the trunk to get to the connector. Once you remove it from the fuel pump try to get it to from underneath and gently pull it out. If it is connected elsewhere then you will need to drop the tank to replace it. The other end of the connector should be readily accessable once the fuel pump end has been removed. Good Luck! and let us know how it turns out.

Re: How diffucult to change this harness

What I would do is try to tie a small chain to the end of part 29,30 or 31 which ever it is. And see if you can take wire 32 or 33 and slowly pull it thru. Use a chain not a small rope, because if it doesn't work, you'll have to pull it back. If you get it thru. Then hook new wire to 32 and with the chain, slowly pull it back up and hook it up.
If any part of that doesn't work. Read GTPDAD's reply.
I hate pulling tanks. Had my idea work on most cars. But there is always those don't work.
Good luck
