98 ex

ok, my gf is looking at a 98 civci ex 4door... its a 120k on it, but it runs really nice, seems pretty strong... the only thing is there is a ticking noise comming from under the valve cover... but all civic we have looked at, and mine, makes this noise also.... anyways, the car was 5500 but we got him down to 5000... think its a good deal, anything we should look out for, plus the water pump has just been replaced and the the timming belt also... and what is that noise from under the valve cover...

Re: 98 ex

that price is a little high but not to bad.
the timing belt is the only common proben i have heard with civics, i bought mine with 110,000 miles for $5,000 i asume that the timeind belt had been changed but i do not know how to tell

does anyone know the way to tell a stock timeing belt VS. one that had been replaced . shit i dont evn remember where it is located

well i am not sure on how tell the difference if you can, which you probably cannot... just check and see if its worn or something i guess... but... its located on the same side as all of your pulleyes, your AC compressor if you have one, your fan belt or drive belt, whatever you wanna call it... theyre all on the driver side, im asuming all civics are like that, not just mine, you have to take the pulleyes off and the timing belt cover, its a job though...

Re: 98 ex

Yeah, just changed mine, adjusted the timing, and everything... about 4 hours worth of work diy...

Oh, and yes, I agree that that price is a little high... check www.kbb.com for a price quote... I got my 98 ex 4dr for 2 grand, but it had a ton of body damage... It's getting fixed up by me ever so slowly... lol

I got my 98 civic lx with 70k on it for about 5500 so i think it's an ok deal. As for the ticking sound, you probably need to adjust your valves.
