Re: 96 Gmc 1500 Help!!!
Is '96 OBD 1, or OBD 2? My 97 is OBD 2, maybe you got the wrong scanner?

they started OBD II mid 95 i beleive, so it should be OBD II, a chiltons/haynes manual should say for sure. Remember the three basics for "fire" is fuel/air/spark(ignition). Compression is a key role too for engines. Unfortunately sensors or as i like to call them, "pain in the *ss sh*t that gets in the way", have just as big of an effect, but rule out the four basics first.

I'm an idiot, there is a haynes manual sitting right next to me, let's take a look see, shall we?......
TROUBLESHOOTING Engine starts but stops immediatley...... 1-Loose or damaged wire harness connections at distributor, coil or alternator. 2-Intake manifold vacuum leaks. Make sure all mounting bolts/nuts are tight and all vacuum hoses connected to the manifold are attached properly and in good condition. 3-Insufficient fuel flow. (again, spark/air/fuel) FUEL PRESSURE V6 and small block V8 engines ..... 60 to 66 psi 7.4 V8 engines ......................... 56 to 62 psi FUEL INJECTOR RESISTANCE Central SFI systems (V6/V8) ...... 1.37 to 1.36 ohms MPFI systems (7.4L V8) ............. 11.4 to 12.6 ohms Did you check to see if fuel was actually coming out of the injectors? If you have any other questions that I can look up in my book, give me vehicle specifics and ask, and i'll see what I can do. Note: I've read elsewhere on this site (I forget where or for which application of truck) that the aftermarket fuel pump had insufficient power/pressure. OEM pump from the dealer worked, this might be the case, but from the sounds of it probably not. |
