Stereo problem #1,999,367

I have searched the forums thouroughly so as not to repeat any questions. My girlfriend just got a 97 cav. The factory stereo was in it but only lit up its display. No sound was coming from the speakers (no hum, hiss, nothing). I took the factory out and spliced up an aftermarket with a harness. Same thing. The head unit lights up, the eq bounces around a lot when a strong station comes in and a CD is playing making me believe that the speakers just aren't receiving any signal. I'm wondering if it's a problem with the speaker harness. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Test the harness leads with an ohm meter. Or just run new wires to the speakers. I would also test the speakers to make sure that they work. Someone could have blown them? Replacing speakers is a lot easier than running new wires. Good Luck.

Not sure about this, But does it have a factory amp? if the amp is bad then the speaks would not work, Right?

There's no amp to be seen so I don't think that's the problem...unless chevy put a hidden amp in somewhere..I can't find anything out about that. I just checked the wiring harness and all speaker wires come up good. Must be a blown preamp or something to that effect. I find it strange that both the factory preamp and the new head's preamp would be blown unless I have a short somewhere. Back to work I go.
Thanks for the tips though..keep them coming!!!
