How Do You Put On The Convertible Boot?

Sup guys,

I understand that I have posted several questions which may seem simple to some, please understand that I've never own an eclipse let alone a spyder and my car didnt come with the manual.

My question is quite simple for all those that have a 95-99 spyder how on earth do you put on the boot? I mean it obviously goes over the convertible top once its down. I tuck it in around the outside edge of it but I dont see any clips or anything to secure it. I notice the boot has two straps underneath, what are those straps for? btw, I believe this is the original factory covertible boot. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Re: How Do You Put On The Convertible Boot?

How I put mine on which may nto be correct is the following. you will notice two little like flanges at the front edges. Take those and stick those in under the plastic on the back side walls. The boot should sit over everything else. Now the piece in the back that looks like a bracked push that down and in. Don't try to slide it on the back lip. itried that I don't think thats right. Then tuck in all around the edges till it's tight. It takes a few minutes and you may have to redo some parts to get it to all fit over. once it's on it's snug. It wont come off even though it's not really attached just pushed down in..

the straps underneath are for storage. If you lay it on the ground on it's top then pull one of the L shaped parts downward and tuck it under the strap and do that with the other you will notice it now stores and fits nicely in the hole... I mean trunk...

It seems like a real hassle to deal with at first. But if your like me and drive on the highway alot you want it. If you don't because your lazy like me when I first got it you wont put it on and notice your interior headliner is dusty and dirty after a week or so. Use the boot. You will still have to clean the seats more so then with a non convertible car (road dirt) but it's much easier to do that then clean the top. I use carpet cleaner on my seats works wonders spray foam stuff!

Also first time it rains if you notice a small leak don't panic. Armorall all the seals on the top around the front windshield and the windows and clean the windows. Then see if it still does it. If it leaks again by the front windowshield you can tighten the J bolts that actually clamp the top down by using a hex wrench and then twisting the bolts one turn. It will close tighter afterward.

Nice car and you don't bug us with questions. I'm a recently new owner too I have a 99 spyder gs also. Very nice car. I had lots of questions when I first got it. Ask otherwise you may never know. I'm around all odd hours of the day too if you need a response sooner then on here you can always email me. the address is listed in the forums if you click on contact. I check that all hours of the day.

Re: How Do You Put On The Convertible Boot?

Just to add some more helpful hints on having a spyder..... if the top leaks even after "lubing" all the seals... try using some High Traffic/Heavy Duty ScotchGuard on the top... douch it on good and let it dry... I did it and 95% of my water leakage stopped... happy days!!!! I hope ya enjoy your spyder... I REALLLLLY miss mine especially now that it is summer again!!!!!

Also as for the cover... there isn't really a set way to put it in... I just did mainly what nova1313 explained.... I did about 110mph and didn't lose it.... he he he he he
