fuel Gauge Question?

After filling up the gas tank, my fuel gauge reads full! Once I get down to about a 1/2 tank, my needle will sometimes go down to the empty mark causing the chime to go off! I understand that it's normal for this to occur after stopping suddenly or turning sharply, but should it happen after putting 8 gallons in the tank? Sometimes the needle will go to empty & sound the chime before I even leave the gas station!

Could this be rectified by installing a new gas cap possibly, or does it sound more like a fuel sending unit or something?

FYI: My Jeep gets good fuel on acceleration & shows no signs of power loss! But this is driving me crazy! CHIME! CHIME! CHIME!

Re: fuel Gauge Question?

I had the same issue. Changed the sending unit and that took care of it.
