Re: Help ! coolant leak under alternator ??
You pull the intake.
I have heard that is is *possible* to change them wit hthe intake on, but it is a real pain in the rump. I would pull the intake so I would be SURE everything got back togather correctly. PS: The intake gaskets are RE-USEABLE. |

Re: Help ! coolant leak under alternator ??
I agree with modmech. It is possible to change it without pulling intake, but it is a real PITA to attach the rear mounting bolts and to work it under the back if engine.

Re: Help ! coolant leak under alternator ??
The hose has a metal elbow and bracket that bolts to the rear of the right head. Then it has a rubber hose that goes to the heater core. It is not attached to intake at all.

guys thanks, i got the line off. it had a bolt at back of right head and also at the back of intake. ok, i posted a link below of the line and my question is - at the end where it attaches to waterpump(also where it was leaking, in the rubber part) it is crimped to the metal line. Can i cut the metal line off and use clamps to attach the rubber hose ??

Re: Help ! coolant leak under alternator ??
The new hose should come with the rubber hose already on it. I think the only rubber hose that needs replaced is the formed one that goes to the heater core.

I just did this job 3 weeks ago on my 95. Do not try to clamp a new piece of hose on. The ford hose for under 30 bucks has the preformed metal and crimped on piece of hose. This hose, being under the intake needs to be much higher quality than regular heater hose from the auto parts store. The Ford part even comes with a new clamp for the water pump end. As much of a bitch as this job is do not scrimp to save 30 bucks - your time isn't worth it. You don't want to overheat this motor as reman heads go as high as a grand apiece. You don't want to warp one!!

I ran accross an engine where they bypassed the whole piece under the intake, works just fine.

Am I correct in my understanding here that the line simply goes from the back of the waterpump...hydraulic crimped to a tube, then same thing on the other end of the manifold to a heatercore hose? Noidster |
