RF modulator necessary?
I have a Philips DVD player, but my TV's are older style, with only antenna hookup. Is it necessary to get an RF modulator to convert the antenna to A/V plugs?
I tried it with my VCR, which has A/V inputs and outputs. My DVD player has one video plug and 2 audio plugs, while my VCR has just one for each. What's the difference? I also tried using the RF adapter from my old NES, which does work but only when the NES power is on, with a game in... kind of weird. Any ideas? |

I see, thanks. I should have known that one.
As for whether or not I need an RF modulator or can do it thru the VCR, anybody know? |

Re: RF modulator necessary?
Have you a Radio Shack or other electronic store around? I know Radio Shack has a VHF/UHF convertor, not too expensive, where you use your RCA plugs from signal source to plug into the convertor, and the signal then goes up to the antenna screw-contacts.

I talked to a guy at Radioshack yesterday... apparently if you try to do it through the VCR a whole bunch of colours will appear, b/c the DVD's are copyrighted... I never had this happen when I tried it, but anyways, I can get an RF modulator for about $30 so I guess I'll just do that.

Having worked at Radioshack in the past, I can tell you that the RF Modulator is indeed exactly what you need. The VCR will scramble the signal up due to copyright issues (as you said.) They wouldn't want you to be able to bust out a VHS copy of your DVD, after all (and why would you want to, when a DVD burner and any number of programs will just do it for you
Oh yeah: "Can I get you some A/V cables for that also? I recommend these gold ones... How about batteries? A book light? A Universal Remote? How do you like your cell phone plan?..."
