Ive got a no hot start question

is there any possible way that the ignition timing could be the cause of my motor not turning over when the motor is hot. Ive got a 1991 integra and it seldom happens, but its quite annoying when it does. i cant figure out the cause of it but when it happens i dont get fire from my spark plugs and also there was something aftermarket previously put under the stering column and later removed but not the wires completely, ive been told it was either an alarm or a cruise control option. keep in mind though that all that was already there when i got the car and it only wont start very seldom and when it is pretty hot... thnx for anyone that wants to try to take a stab at this one!
