Question Crazy Gas Gauge

My gas gauge suddenly falls to empty while driving and then seconds later returns to normal. (It occurs even when I've just filled up) The low fuel noise sounds and this happens about every 3-5 minutes. It is incredibly annoying. Has this happened to anyone else? Is there any way to at least disconnect the noise? The DTE electronic display used to be unaffected but now it displays 0 as well and then returns to normal. Can anyone help? It is a 1998 Durango with 15thousand miles.

Thank you.

Thanks for the suggestion. My problem doesn't seem to be related to a full tank. I have no idea what to do about it.
