h22a with h23 tranny

anyone who has the h22 engine with an h23 tranny...does ur car drop out of vtec when u shift from 1st to 2nd. Sometimes i can get it to stay in vtec but thats only if i slam the shit out of 2nd, and in every other gear (2->3,3->4, and in 5th) it stays in vtec when i shift... I was wondering if the h22 tranny keeps the rpm's above 5k when u shift into 2nd?
I drive a 4th gen with the h22a, h23 tranny, skunk2 programmed p13 ecu, and an ebay intake(K&n filter)

yea with that combo you will fall out of vtec in a 1st to 2nd shift unless you rev higher than 7200 (not recommended)... I also run that combo, h23 with jdm h22a. the h22 tranny would be better if you are staying NA, if you are planning on going turbo at some point stick with the h23 trans.
