ABS Light is on

2003 Dodge G.C. Sport 3.3L 49000 miles

My ABS light came on about 1000 miles ago and the fuses under hood are fine and brakes work fine. What could cause the light? Wheel sensor? Bad computer? Also, I have an OBDII scanner and I get an error code when trying to use it on this vehicle. It works fine before ABS light and work fine on my other OBDII vehicle. I wonder if that could be part of the problem. Also, my tire tread is getting pretty thin all the way around but I may be able to squeeze another 10K out of them. Could the smaller tire diameter than what is programmed into computer have anything to do with the problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
