Radio Removal/CD player installation

Hey guys. I have a 91 geo metro.....i recently graduated and with some of the money i bought a nice sony cd player to put in....i bought all of the correct stuff to get the job done, but had trouble getting to the radio...so i took it to HH Gregg for them to do it, and the guy said i have to replace the entire center console to do the job. is this true? is so, how do i do this job and get a new cd player in my car?? thanks in advance

The only reason to replace the whole console is if your stereo is 2bay+ bigger, and I have not seen any stereo like that before.

But.. if this is the case bro, I suggest to place the stereo somewhere else, maybe inside the glove box or hanging from the dash attached by some kind of custom made clips.

That cd player would work some how!!!

If you go to any car stereo shop, or even walmart, you will find Scosche or Metra kits that will adapt your 1.5 or 2x din radio bay to fit a single din aftermarket. You can also find the wiring harnesses that will plug in to the factory wiring and eliminate cutting and hunting with a meter. Much safer, quicker, and easier on fuses.

In case anyone notices, I really feel like I'm flogging a dead, and somewhat decayed horse at this point. I would wager a full half of my posts are telling people this. Mechanics DO NOT KNOW about your stereo. The dealer WILL NOT KNOW how to put in aftermarket. Go to a small, independant CAR STEREO SHOP that stocks good quality (Metra) adaptor kits and harnesses. Hell, pay them $20-30 to install your deck while you're at it, if you're not confident in your stereo expertise. That's what they do.
