00 GTS oil change, what kind of oil?
what kind of oil should i use? I have no idea what they put in it before, i couldn't get any info about the car's history from the dealer, he just didn't know anything about it. I've heard if you use synthetic you have to stick with it and use only synthetic forever. i can't believe there was no owner's manual with the car! anyways does it take 5W-30 or 10W or what?

Re: 00 GTS oil change, what kind of oil?
I`ve learned alot about Oil types over the last few months, basically, if you have an old engine its best if you run thicker oil, say 15w50, it gives better cold protection but takes longer to circulate around the engine, If you have a newer engine 0w10 is acceptable, it will flow around your engine quickly and not be effected by the close tolerances of your engine, (thicker oil may not get to these parts until it gets up to temp).
Pretty much all oils apart from the extemes have a very similar consistancy when up to opperating temp. I`ve gone from running 15w50 to 10w40 and the engine revs much more freely and runs better. A test by Silkolene revealed that heavyer oil can reduce your cars horsepower by as much as 6BHP due to the extra effort required by the engine to pump it around the system. You will be fine using 10w40 but could use 5w40 or even 0w40 with no ill effects. Just make sure its fully synthetic. Dinosaure oil is a waist of time.
