Cooling fan problem
hmm ok...well my cooling fan hasn't been working for awhile, and since the hot days are coming i need to get it fixed asap. Lately i've just been cooling down my engine with the air going through the radiator and to the engine. Just about a few weeks ago I replaced my water pump because it had broken, and just recently fixed one of my thermostats. I have checked all fuses and replaced my cooling fan relay. Any suggestions please!!! i can't go on with a overheating engine!!!!!
And one more thing. Today i was checking the wiring and stuff and i put everything back together and the cooling fan started working for one run. But after the engine cooled down for a few hours i had started it back up and let it get up to temp and the cooling fan didn't work. Let me know what i can do?...PLEASE!!!

I can't speak for everyone, but my fan doesn't kick on til it's a fair amount past normal operating temp. These motors are built with tolerances, it's not like they have to operate at one specific temperature. If that needle dips into the red, you're in trouble, but pushing 3/4 on the gauge is fine as the fan should kick in around then.

Ditto. About 3/4 of the way to red mine kicks in (lots of data collection from having a ghetto air filter + stock intake combo ^^). Sorry I can't help you since I'm not that "motor-savy". For now, I guess just blow out hot air when you're in bumper to bumper rushhour traffic (or turn on the AC if your car's like mine... I still don't understand how turning on the AC turns on the cooling fans? Is that some GM specific design? I sure don't see it anywhere else).

hmm well several times in traffic it gets pretty close to the red line and sometimes it does. but since i usually drive in no traffic it usually doesn't get too hot since the air flow cools it down enough. hmm if you have any more input on this i would be greatly appreciated. thanks for the replies that are already given

Hmm. sounds like quite the pickle =P
What i would do, is when your fan Should be turned on, take a test light and check to see if the fans getting voltage. If it is, then its a simple matter of the fan starting to die, thus get a new one. If not, hardwire it directly to the battery with a switch inside your car for easy turn on/off.
