gas milage and problems

how bad is the gas milage on a ls1 camaro if i get it with the 6 speed, and when do parts start to break...on average how many miles....if i get one it would have around 50k.....how much will repairs cost....for the record, i take very good care of the car, but i cant be positve about the previous owner...and it will be a daily driver

gas mileage in the ls1s are better than the lt1s and in my lt1 i get 20ish +.... parts wise if it only has 50k on it you shouldnt have to worry at all much untill maybe 100k but then again u never know... could be a lot more could be a few less miles...

Basicly what Cuda said is that there is no way to tell when your engine is going to mess up since every car is driven drifferently. Say you have 2 Camaros, same color, both SS. Now one is driven by a teenager who just got his liscense (CamaroA) and an old man who's in his 60s (CamaroB) Obviously the kid who just got his liscense is going to step on the gas, giving it all and even worse not knowing the side effects of driving the car when it just turned on a.k.a. cold engine wear. The old man obviously will sit there and warm it up and drive with a light foot. If you look at both cars and they have the same mileage obviously CamaroA is bound to break more parts sooner than CamaroB.

Stereotyper! Whilst I don't have a Camaro yet I know all about how to take it easy..but unfortunately i will be stomping on it the odd time As for gas milage I can't really help, but I see different numbers all over.

with the LS1 camaros, i have often heard of 30mpg on the highway if you set it on cruise at 60-65 and drive. The engines are very efficient. As far as things breaking, the only thing i have seen on them in an entire year working at a dealership was failed piston rings (this is a known problem, and it should have been fixed under warrantee if the owner knew what was good for him, if you get oil consumption that the dealership wont cover, ask to speak to their GM rep) and one had a phantom car alarm that would go off randomly, that was a bitch to track down, wound up taking to sensors, two BCMs, and a radio receiver to fix. More likely than not the problems you will run into will be electrical like a control module or something rather than a mechanical failure. So it wont be anything major.

Well it is stereotyping but its like a fact among guys with a fast car who just got their liscense. Going fast, burning tires, doing donuts. it's something everyone does when they get it.

Piston slap, oil consumption. Otherwise, they are good for many miles. I know of guys that still made a ton of power after S/C'ing it with 120,000 miles. Still made 500+ at the wheels.

Gas mileage....M6 does much better than A4. The best I ever got on the highway was 31 MPG. Since cam...I average 27 on the highway and 22 around town.
And I drive 80 MPH on the highway. Still not spinning above 2,000 RPM's with stock gears.
