What's that on the windshield?
I've recently picked up a 2001 AWD, and I am curious to know what all that stuff on the Windshield is.
I can see a small square box at the top of the shield on the drivers side. There's a metal element that looks like it might be some type of antenna on the passenger side. And there is also the tinted area extending from the above metal element covering most of the windshield. The vehicle has OnStar, so my best guess is it's something to do with it, but I'm not sure. Hope someone can help Cheers Jason |

I don't remember anything on the drivers side, so I'm guessing its the onstar antenna (we don't have onstar). The regular radio antenna is in the windshield on passenger side. There is a couple different windshields on the Teks, if you have the HUD that may part of coating that allows you to see it, not sure.

Re: What's that on the windshield?
On-star has a separate antenna on either the roof or drivers side rear window. If I get a chance I'll check out my windshield.

Re: What's that on the windshield?
Thanks for the info guys.
I'm surprised that if the tint on the windshield is for HUD that they made the effort to tint most of the glass, but not all of it. The way it is shaped almost makes it look like it is connected to the regular antenna on the passenger side of the windshield. I do have a pretty standard looking cell phone antenna on the rear passenger side of the car. I assumed that was for the OnStar hands free cell phone function. Does OnStar use GPS? Maybe that is the box on the drivers side of the windshield? Jason |
