Timing belt question

Hi everyone, I haven't been up here for a while, and now I'm back. Yeah I got some questions about my car. I have a 93 base model. It already has a 118k miles, do you guys think it's a good time to replace my timing belt and water pump? and is there any other maintanence service should be done to my car at this age and mileage? Thanks people.

Re: Timing belt question

Look in the FAQ. The part about 60k tuneup. Yes, you definantly need a new belt and water pump, among other things. At 120k, you will need to do another 60k tuneup, plus the oil pump.

I'd check www.thepartsbin.com for cheap parts. I know I priced all the parts for mine at like $350 + free shipping.

Re: Timing belt question

60000 miles or 5 years, if its an auto can go a bit longet but not much. it really isnt worth leaving, could be big buck if it goes

Re: Timing belt question

ya, thepartsbin.com is a good place for parts. HOWEVER, i recommend you don't get the timing auto tensioner from there: i did and mine failed after 10k miles. just go with an OEM timing tensioner to guarantee you get a good product. it might be a little pricey, but its better than not having your car start b/c the tensioner failed and the timing belt got loose and skipped some teeth. other than that, i've been happy with all the parts i've gotten from thepartsbin.com

Re: Timing belt question

ya sLADE, its been a while. didn't get on much during the last part of the semester. i've been busy, working, and playing a little halo 2.

oh ya....and i also really screwed up my car, so i haven't had any desire for car talk. but she still runs. hey...maybe i'll throw some pics in the 'Pics of your Ride' thread. it would be quite funny: just an update!
