Question 99 silverado throttle sticks

i had problems under warranty and the dealer was quick to install a new throttle assy.this fixed it for about 1 year and it came back so i figure its a built in glitch and have lived with it since.now its getting worse yet.i checked the cables and they're ok..its the throttle plate as it does it with cables disconnected.looks to me like the plate makes a groove in the bore and wears in,sticking shut.
i wonder if this is a common problem or just mine....
is there a chevy fix for this or just get a new body and wait for it to waer like the last one??
thanx for any help....
wootman out.

Re: 99 silverado throttle sticks

I just bought a '99 4.8L with 71k miles and it was sticking. I took the intake hose off and sprayed almost a full can of cleaner, man that TB was dirty, wiped it out with a rag as i was spraying, also start the truck once in a while so all that varnish does not wash into the cylinders! Problem solved! for now anyway!

It's a known problem. An occasional cleaning as redneck45 says and you'll be fine for a year or so. I need to do mine again. Make sure you clean up the linkage at the side of the TB too - it gets a little sticky.

Re: 99 silverado throttle sticks

use 3M throttle body cleaner, i use to have to clean it every oil change to keep it from sticking, but since i switched to 3m, its been over a year since it was sticking, i dont know if its the 3m or just good luck, but its worth a shot

just a simple question.....when you guys say the throttle is sticking...does this mean like say when I turn my truck on and I push the gas...it like doesn't want to 'go' like it doesn't want to shift...so you let go of the gas pedal and then it frees up...then you push the gas and it goes ok.....I hope this makes sense.....

Re: 99 silverado throttle sticks

Standing at a red light idle, your foot goes from the brake to the gas pedal and it seems like your doing a power burn out because the pedal gets hung up. Makes your passenger think you are doing a power burnout. As long as the truck is moving you don't see it cause the truck motion will hide that bump to get over that hangup. That is what I noticed.
