race fuel to normal fuel conversion

i'm thinking of purchasing a 68 chevelle that is currently running on race fuel, and i would like to convert it to run on normal street fuel. it has a 355cid 400hp engine. the engine has been bored 30 over, and has victor racing intake, brody racing heads and a holley 650 carb. the guy selling it doesn't know the compression ratio, but thinks that if i make the carburation less agressive, it should be able to run on normal fuel.

does this make sense? as far as i know, the compression ratio is key. the engine must be running under high compression to get 400hp. would changing the carb settings fix the fuel issue? would i also need to change the intake or cam, etc?

any help at all would be greatly appreciated!

Re: race fuel to normal fuel conversion

That would not be a good idea in my oinion. The car was made to race and and the motor was desighned to run at RPM's higher than your everyday driver. Changing the carb and intake is a step in the right direction, but it is not enough. The cam , carb, heads ect, are made to race.

Re: Re: race fuel to normal fuel conversion

Thanks for the input. I was afraid that the answer would not be as simple as just changing the carb and intake.
