just curiouse. what would i get for a trade in for a new civic if i traded in a 1997

just curious.well my friend was
he is getting a new car and he has a 1997 honda civic.body is in reat shape.
it needs a transmission.spark plugs.engine work,major tune up, brakes.clutch linkage i think it was. opr cable.anda few minor things her and there what do u think a new car place would give him if he wanted to trade it in towrds a new car and the engine has 156k miles on it.he wants a 2002 altima.what do u think a place would give him as a trade in. and he might even need a new engine.becouse its that bad.

im getting it for $100 bucks. just seeing if i should or let him trade it in..

A dealer won't give much for a trade-in with that many miles, let alone with that many problems... my advice would be for him to sell it privately, never trade it in to a dealer unless you know them and understand that you won't get as much for it.

i know i he just wants to know ball park figures.too see what he will get if he traded it in..so what do u think a dealer would give for that

i was telling him they might not even take it becouse. a new dealer probley dont want the hassle.of it.what they need it for the body is good but engine sucks and so goes trans u know

I agree with exman98 and siege911 . Dealerships never give you what the car is worth. He could have a mint condition Civic with everything running top shape, and they'd still end up giving him $2K or less for it. I think realistically, they might give him anywhere from $500-750 at most for it. If they want to re-sell the car, they'd have to either sell it at auction or spend the $ to get the car fixed before selling it. But he could definently sell it privately and make a lot more than trading it in. I mean it's a Civic, so a lot of people would buy it just to swap an engine in.

yeh he said hed sell it to me for $100 becouse we are friends.so i am probly gunna do that.i miss the $hit out of my civic.i sold it and got a 84 celica and dam the celica is a fast car.but still i miss the Shit out of it.i drive my bros civic and theres nothing like it.so ill probly end up doing that.and swaping the motor and trans..becouse the out side and inside are mint or neer mint.

yes, go to www.kbb.com... check that, and also... if that car had that many problems, and i was the dealer, i would tell you to take it to the junk yard i doublt they would give over 500 dollars for it... at the most... unless you go to like a stupid dealer or something...
