Re: No power to the fuel pump .. HELP
Look at the wiring diagram and see where the power is suppose to be coming from.

Re: No power to the fuel pump .. HELP
Do you have a library card or are you a student/teacher?

Re: No power to the fuel pump .. HELP
Schools and libraries subscribe to online databases that can be accessed from home if you have a student/teacher ID or a library card number.

Re: No power to the fuel pump .. HELP
no on all accounts, and the Library's are closed anyhow. I dont want to sound like a smartass, but I wouldnt of asked this forum if I could find the answer somewhere else. So I would appreciate a straight response of you know or dont know, or where to find out. Do you think the library in my small town of 3000 will have a wiring diagram for a 99 Taurus?? I dont. :-) Please, anyone out there have the answer to my problem?? TIA

Anyway, have you verified the fuel pump shut-off switch is not tripped? The switch should be able to be accessed through a small hole in the side liner of the trunk. You owner's manual should explain where to find it. You can also check for power on both sides of this switch. The switch consists of a magnetic cone and a ball bearing. If the switch receives an impact sufficient to knock the bearing out of the magnetic cone, it trips a circuit breaker and shuts off the fuel pump. The concept is if the car is involved in an accident, if a fuel line is severed, the fuel pump will not continue to feed a fire. I'm not sure on the '99 (or '98 for that fact) but my old '93 SHO had a constant control relay module (CCRM) mounted on the cross member under the hood which contained the fuel pump relay. If you really want to "get" a service manual for your Taurus, you can subscribe to an electronic manual at www.alldatadiy.net (or is it .com?) for $25 a year which includes complete technical service bulletins (TSB's) and electronic search feature, as well as factory part numbers and prices, labor times, and can be accessed from anywhere you can get on the Internet. Good luck, -Rod |

Re: Re: No power to the fuel pump .. HELP
This probably won't be a great deal of help, but I'm having prettty much the exact problem right now with a '93 Taurus, 3.8litre. It will run great for a while, get us somewhere and then refuse to start again. AAA has towed us twice in the past two weeks. My Haynes manual is of only minor help. I determined I didn't hear the fuel pump cycling (sometimes), so I went ahead and spent a Saturday dropping the tank and replacing it. The old one still worked when given a 12volt supply. Now the pump will sometimes cycle. I know to listen for it before trying to turn the engine over, if so , it usually starts and drives just fine. If not, it just spins but no ignition; needless to say it's sitting in the driveway still until I can find out what is intermittently cutting power to the pump. So far it's only happened after turning the engine off, not while running. The emergency shut off in the trunk is fine, I checked it with a voltmeter for continuity when pressed in. My basic manual's wiring diagram doesn't show the fuel pump circuit. I'll take the above advice and search around for a better wiring schematic.
Good luck, you're not alone in your frustration. |

Re: No power to the fuel pump .. HELP
Shorod, Thanks for your offer, but I will not be needing it. Turns out that the fuel pump is getting power, but not working. SSOOOOOO I will be replacing the fuel pump I guess. Sorry for the blundered post. LOL

Re: Re: Re: Re: No power to the fuel pump .. HELP
Shorod,
I'd like to take you up on your offer for the info as jpg's, if you have the time. I did go ahead and get a subscription to the alldatadiy site by autozone, it seems pretty thorough. Your contact info says you would rather not receive e-mails, understandable. Mine is the same but I'll see if I can go in and change the preferences for a while to receive on my end. Thanks in advance for any help. |
