Service Availability

While I am not thrilled with my new 2005 Impala for mainly comfort kind of stuff, another reason I did get one was availability of service out here in the boonies. The last 3 times I have needed service on the road, were all in towns of 7700 to 9500 people. Most of those little towns have the big 3 dealer service in those towns. If you stop with a foreign car for service there, they will just laugh at you. With a Jap car, I could envision hauling one for a few hundred miles in some cases to get service. Not so with GM, Ford and Chrysler.
A few years ago I wrote Consumer Reports and suggested they rate their picks for best cars on service availability also, maybe using the number of GM dealers as a bench mark. They answered that they would consider it. Hah!
