No, get a regular thermostat for whatever a 2.2 operating temperature is. Unless you have performance upgrades that require it, you may well damage your motor if don't use parts that meet specs.

Get a 180 degree from Napa. DO NOT GET ONE FROM AUTOZONE!

195 degree is the right thermostat.

And What's wrong with autozone?

Autozone told me my overhear valve engine was a fluke because I showed them the PCV breather filter would NOT leak oil all over. I told him I don't have the OHC engine and he should consider suicide, or at least not tell me my motor is a fluke.

In a 2.2 auto... it's a 180 degree. You likely have an identical car as mine.... read about what problem I've had with my AutoZone thermostat.

Re: how can i take the Thermostat out on a 96 2.2 cavalier...

I have a 180... but I think it's actually supposed to be a 195, which was too hot for my car. Make sure you get a Stant, and not some cheap crap from AutoZone.
